Position Summary

This position is responsible for performing accounting functions which support the Controller’s Office in the financial management of Bryant University’s academic program in Zhuhai, China, as well as with other financial systems, transactions, and reporting matters related to the University’s operations. The Chinese Ministry of Education in Beijing has approved a cooperative agreement between Bryant University and Beijing Institute of Technology, Zhuhai (BITZH), to collaboratively educate students on Bryant’s campus and in Zhuhai, China. Bryant is the first and only American university with a presence in Zhuhai, the first university to establish a partnership with a private institution in China, and the only U.S.-China joint business program in Guangdong Province on the southeast coast. This position will coordinate all primary accounting and budget functions for this program.

Principal Accountabilities

This position reports to the Controller. To perform the functions of this position, the individual will perform responsibilities as assigned by the Controller, as well as the Associate Vice President of Business Affairs.

Operational Duties:

China Program: The incumbent will be responsible for the overall business and financial management of the Bryant Zhuhai program, including but not limited to development of budgets, transaction review, invoicing, development of financial statements, and business vendor relationships.

University Accounting: In addition, the incumbent reviews, analyzes and interprets data on a monthly basis for certain University Balance Sheet accounts in preparation for month-end closes. This work includes working with various departments in reconciling balances and monitoring activity as well as preparing journal entries, invoices, monthly reports and financial transactions of the University’s departments and associated activities. The individual will also assist in the preparation of University wide trial balances and other various reports as well as financial statements and footnotes.

University Tax Reporting: The incumbent will be involved in tax reporting and compliance work. Areas include obtaining and preparing data for the annual 990 and 990-T tax forms, state tax information, and possible work in the areas of state exemption filing, RI Sales Tax, 1099 reporting, and unclaimed property reporting.


This position is best served by an individual with an undergraduate degree in Accounting, and a CPA/Masters in Accounting. Proficiency in Mandarin, knowledge of the business environment in China and a deep understanding of Chinese culture is essential.

Other qualifications include demonstrated strong accounting experience, tax experience, strong computer skills, and excellent interpersonal skills. Attentiveness to detail and accuracy are imperative.
