Position Summary

The Lead Network Analyst is responsible for implementing and maintaining network, systems and telecommunications technologies that support the campus community. The Lead Network Analyst will work within a team of highly technical professionals in executing operational best practices, data analysis, problem management, process development and project management to ensure that all network operations and services meet the specified service level and service delivery requirements. The Lead Network Analyst is required to work across organizational teams with various IT and campus groups towards solutions for the betterment and efficiency of the campus. The Lead Network Analyst will receive supervision from the Manager of Infrastructure Services.

Principal Accountabilities

• Maintains in-depth understanding of the technology field; independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the network analyst role; exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate actions; possesses broad job knowledge; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions;
• Uses professional concepts and proven methodologies to ensure the campus technology landscape aligns with university goals and objectives;
• Analyzes complex issues where evaluation of data requires a review of a variety of factors; works with different teams to implement and/or troubleshoot complex problems.
• Researches, understands and is able to apply theory and put into operational practice a scope customized for maximum campus community benefit;
• Solicits and reviews vendor proposals to ensure consistency with objectives, scope, and user expectations; gathers facts and prepares business case proposals comparing alternatives in terms of cost, time, and availability of resources;
• Stays current with new and emerging technologies, equipment, and/or systems;
• Participates in professional development activities as appropriate.

Qualifications

This position is best filled by an individual with a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline with a minimum of 6 years of related experience; candidates who do not hold a degree with ten (10) or more years of progressively increasing related work experience will also be considered. S/he will hold Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification with four or more years of network implementation, management and troubleshooting experience preferred. Direct work experience and knowledge of the following technologies is imperative: Windows Server 2003/2008/2012; SAN/NAS architectures and converged networking, encompassing fiber channel switching and FCoE converged networks; Linux/Red Hat. Knowledge of Tomcat and Apache webservers as well as Oracle databases and Weblogic is highly desirable. The ideal candidate is a team player with experience collaborating across departments/teams to ensure successful delivery of solutions; an individual with excellent communication skills who is able to explain technical concepts with easy to understand language to assist non-technically oriented employees and who has the desire and ability to learn new technologies; and is a self-starter with the ability to appropriately prioritize and plan complex work and to demonstrate strong critical thinking and problem solving aptitude. Prior experience in a higher education environment is highly desirable.
